École ABC de Bobo
An Icelandic company named Atorka Group donated money ABC which was to be used to start a school. Today over 500 students are currently in school. The building houses 6 classrooms and there's also a workshop for students less inclined for book studies.
In January 2016 students could begin computer classes. An Icelandic company called Tengill donated 91 computers.
The school is located near Quenzenville. There the children receive scholastic material, school uniforms, refreshments at 10 am and a hot meal at noon. Medical needs are attended to as a registered nurse makes visits twice a week.
There was a lot of activity in 2016 as the construction of a college building is well under way. Also a huge water tank was installed as well as a number of pipelines. Solar panels have increased and a new, much larger, kitchen area will soon be unveiled.
The surrounding area
Students all come from extreme poverty and live in the Quenzenville area which is very poverty stricken area. Only a few children in the area go to school and therefore all effort is made to include at least one child from every family in the ABC school. In the year 2010 the average birth per family were 6.2 children. Representatives from the Parent association in École ABC de Bobo assist in choosing which families are most in need of help. The help a family receives is not only because of admission in the school but also the children receive free food and medical attention.
Burkina Faso is one of the poorest countries in the world and educating children is secondary to those who have to worry daily about food and shelter.
The Parent association in the school is very active and has helped the school in a lot of ways become self sustainable. Many parents of students have also been invaluable in assisting with many different tasks.
