The students in the ABC schools in Africa and Asia all come from poverty. What they need is an opportunity. Poor children should also go to school. Without education there is no way to work your way out of poverty. The children don‘t decide where they‘re born but if they receive that opportunity the world is at their feet.

Great things happen when children get an opportunity. One of our former students, Kevin Bahati from Kenya, has achieved tremendous success as a Gospel singer. He grew up in poverty and had nowhere to go when he entered the ABC school in Star of Hope.

Mariel Catabay is a former student from the Philippines and she came from poverty. She enjoyed sponsorship for 14 years and she took a college course in Business and Technical education. Today she consults people on educational matters and helps unemployed people find work.

Shahid Nazir is in medical training today. He grew up in poverty in Farooqabad in Pakistan and went to the ABC school in the area.

Kevin, Mariel and Shahid are just three examples. Former ABC students are in the thousands and they have embarked on their journey full of hope and confidence. They have as much a chance to succeed in life as those who weren‘t born into poverty.

Grace Nankinyi is an ABC student in the school in Namelok in Kenya. She wants to become a doctor. She has five siblings and the economic situation with her family is dire. If she applies herself to her studies there‘s nothing to prevent her from achieving her dreams and being able to fully support herself and her family. She just needs that opportunity.

A lot of children are in the same position Kevin, Mariel and Shahid were in and with support they can get that opportunity they need. To give the gift of opportunity is impossible to put a price tag on.
